Islamabad, September 19, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast warning of hot and dry conditions across the Sindh province on Friday, September 20, 2024. As temperatures continue to soar, residents in Sindh are urged to prepare for another day of sweltering heat.
According to the PMD, most districts in Sindh will experience high temperatures with no significant chance of rain, prolonging the ongoing dry spell. This weather pattern is not confined to Sindh alone, as most regions of Pakistan are expected to witness similar conditions on Friday. However, the intensity of heat in Sindh, especially in urban areas like Karachi, Hyderabad, and interior districts, may reach uncomfortable levels.
Synoptic Situation:
The PMD attributed this widespread hot and dry weather to the prevailing continental air, which is dominating much of Pakistan. While weak moisture-laden currents from the Bay of Bengal are making their way into northeastern Punjab and parts of Kashmir, they are too weak to bring significant relief to the rest of the country, including Sindh. As a result, the province will remain under the influence of the dry continental air.
Weather Forecast for Sindh:
The meteorological department has emphasized that the hot and dry conditions are likely to affect daily activities, particularly in districts already experiencing elevated temperatures. Regions such as Nokkundi and Sibbi, which have recorded the highest maximum temperatures of 42°C in the last 24 hours, are expected to remain extremely hot. Other districts like Bhakkar, which experienced temperatures as high as 41°C, are also expected to face similar conditions on Friday.
The PMD has not forecasted any significant weather activity, such as rainfall, to bring respite from the heat. This prolonged dry spell could potentially impact agricultural activities and increase water demand in the region.
Precautionary Measures:
Given the forecast, residents of Sindh are advised to take necessary precautions, including staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and wearing light, breathable clothing. The old-age, children, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions are particularly vulnerable to heat-related illnesses, and extra care should be taken to ensure their well-being.
In addition to Sindh, the PMD also noted that hot and dry weather conditions will prevail across most parts of Pakistan, with only northeastern Punjab and Kashmir experiencing some minor moisture penetration. Despite this, the forecast for Friday largely reflects the weather pattern of Thursday, September 19, 2024, when hot and dry conditions persisted across the country, with only Rawalakot receiving a minimal rainfall of 1mm.
As Sindh braces for another hot day, the PMD will continue to monitor the weather closely, providing updates as conditions evolve.
