The range includes 1.8 and 2.0-liter hybrid electric (HEV) models, as well as a 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) variant. The 2.0-liter HEV version also offers intelligent all-wheel drive (AWD-i) as an option.

These new models feature Toyota’s latest fifth-generation technology, which balances increased power and reduced emissions. The hybrid system components have been redesigned to be smaller and lighter, including a new transaxle, power control unit (PCU), and a more powerful high-voltage battery.

The 1.8-liter Hybrid powertrain, also found in the new Corolla family, offers improved eco-performance and more power than the current 1.8-liter hybrid electric Toyota C-HR. The Hybrid 200 provides even higher output, delivering a rewarding hybrid driving experience without compromising efficiency.\

The 2.0-liter Plug-in Hybrid is a top-of-the-line system, offering seamless all-electric driving for daily use and highly efficient hybrid performance for longer journeys. It reduces driving stress with its impressive EV range and Regeneration Boost feature, which provides a “one pedal” driving experience. The system also optimizes energy efficiency by adjusting the drive mode based on the car’s navigation system, identifying the best opportunities for recharging.

The Toyota C-HR PHEV also includes a geofencing function that automatically switches to EV mode when entering a low emission zone (LEZ), maximizing battery usage throughout the trip (requires navigation system and sufficient battery charge).

The AWD-i option, available on the 2.0-liter HEV version, enhances traction and stability during acceleration, cornering, and slippery conditions. It utilizes an additional compact, high-torque electric motor-generator on the rear axle, operating effectively across various speeds and road conditions.

STRIKING DESIGN: TOYOTA C-HR’S EYE-CATCHING APPEARANCE

The new Toyota C-HR maintains the captivating design of the previously unveiled prologue model, showcasing a “concept car on the road” aesthetic. Its coupe-like lines are now even more pronounced, featuring a “super-coupe” profile. The front design sets the tone for future Toyota SUVs, with similarities to the bZ4X and new Prius. The interlocking diamond-cut character lines and flush door handles, a first for Toyota, enhance the car’s road presence.

With short overhangs and large wheels up to 20 inches in diameter, the C-HR exudes a dynamic and compact look. A new bi-tone paint design option extends the black roof contrast to the rear bumper, creating a seamless appearance. The exterior design incorporates “concealed tech” elements, ensuring tighter shut lines and seamless integration of cameras, radar, and headlight washers.

Toyota’s design and aero teams collaborated to ensure both visual appeal and aerodynamic efficiency. Careful attention was paid to optimize airflow over and around the vehicle, refining details like the front bumper and rear roof spoiler.

By utilizing a mobile app, touchscreen controls, or voice commands, drivers can effortlessly manage a wide array of functions. The primary goal was to develop a seamless, intuitive, and personalized encounter that anticipates the user’s every need.

Upon approaching the vehicle, an immersive welcome scenario greets the driver with enhanced exterior lighting, including an illuminating Toyota C-HR light signature on the back door. The driver’s preferred settings, such as seat position, digital instrument display, head-up display, and multimedia screen, are automatically implemented if specified.

An exceptional feature of the Toyota C-HR is its 12.3-inch fully digital combimeter (available on select trims), boasting sharp graphics and clearly segmented information for easy readability. The display can be customized to prioritize various content based on driver preference or the nature of the journey. For example, when merging onto a motorway, the active ADAS function information takes precedence. With three preset layouts that can be personalized using steering wheel switches, the combimeter and multimedia display screen ensure consistency in quality and ease of use through consistent color and font choices.

To further elevate convenience, the Toyota C-HR offers a digital key system, enabling users to access and start the vehicle simply by having their phone on their person.

Creating a captivating ambiance, the C-HR’s ambient lighting system boasts a broad spectrum of up to 64 colors. This allows for versatile interior lighting options that can reflect the cabin environment, whether it be cool or warm, as well as the time of day. A thoughtfully designed program of 24 changing shades seamlessly transitions from bright morning tones to soothing evening hues with each passing hour. Additionally, the lighting scheme enhances safety by reinforcing alerts from the Safe Exit Assist system with a red interior lighting change, effectively warning of potential collisions when opening the doors near approaching traffic or cyclists. Notably, the Toyota C-HR is the first Toyota model to incorporate these extended ambient lighting features.

Additionally, a dedicated app enables fully remote parking, allowing drivers to maneuver into tight spaces with exceptional precision while outside the vehicle.

ENHANCED SAFETY AND DRIVER ASSISSTANCE FEATURES

The latest Toyota Safety Sense suite of active safety and driver assistance features will be available across all versions of the new Toyota C-HR. These features have been improved to offer increased protection against common accidents and to reduce the driver’s workload. In addition, system software updates can now be conveniently delivered over-the-air without the need to visit a retailer.

Key advancements include Acceleration Suppression, which automatically slows down sudden throttle input when there is a risk of collision with a vehicle in front. Another new feature is Proactive Driving Assist (PDA), which operates at lower speeds and ensures smooth deceleration when the driver releases the throttle while approaching a slower vehicle or navigating a curve. PDA also provides Steering Assist, which detects upcoming bends and adjusts the steering force to assist the driver in making precise and stable turns.

Furthermore, owners have the option to select an advanced safety package for their C-HR, which includes Lane Change Assist with Front Cross Traffic Alert, a Driver Monitor Camera to enhance the performance of the Driver Support System, an Automatic High-Beam System with camera control for optimal light distribution adjustment, and, where local regulations allow, hands-free driving to automatically follow the vehicle ahead in stop-start traffic jams.
