Ugandan Victor Kiplangat Seizes Gold in Thrilling Marathon Win

The global stage witnessed an awe-inspiring spectacle as Victor Kiplangat, the Ugandan sensation, secured the top spot in the men’s marathon at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary on August 27, clocking an impressive time of 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 53 seconds.

With the absence of strong contenders, Kiplangat’s unyielding resolve shone through, propelling him to a remarkable victory in the final stretch.

The 23-year-old, known for his Commonwealth Games triumph, engaged in an enthralling head-to-head contest with Ethiopian athlete Leul Gebresilase after surpassing the 33-kilometer mark.

Summoning an extraordinary surge of speed and determination, Kiplangat surged ahead, leaving both Gebresilase and fellow competitors trailing in his dust as he triumphantly crossed the finish line.

The electrifying race also featured a stunning performance by Israel’s Maru Teferi, who outpaced Gebresilase in a gripping sprint during the closing moments.

Teferi clinched the highly sought-after silver medal with an impressive time of 2 hours and 9 minutes. Meanwhile, Gebresilase, unable to maintain his initial lead, secured the bronze medal, finishing a mere seven seconds behind Teferi.

Despite the formidable challenge posed by scorching temperatures, Kiplangat remained composed—a testament to his thorough preparation for adverse weather conditions.

Reflecting on Uganda’s second gold medal at the World Championships, Kiplangat shared his jubilation, remarking, “Today’s triumph was both a cherished dream and a meticulously executed mission.”

This remarkable feat by Kiplangat not only cements his name in athletic history but also highlights Uganda’s prowess on the international stage.
