In a dominant display of cricketing prowess, the USA recorded their largest-ever win in One Day Internationals (ODIs) by thrashing Canada by a massive 169-run margin in Lauderhill.
This resounding victory further cements USA’s formidable form in the ongoing Cricket World Cup League 2, as they continue to rise through the ranks with growing confidence and consistency.
Batting first after winning the toss, USA posted a record-breaking total of 361/3 — their highest score in ODI cricket to date. Despite the early dismissal of opener Andries Gous by Canada’s Kaleem Sana, the hosts rebounded impressively. Smit Patel and captain Monank Patel laid a strong foundation with fluent strokeplay, keeping the run rate between five and six throughout the middle overs.
Following the dismissal of Saiteja Mukkamalla, star batter Milind Kumar joined Smit Patel and the pair unleashed a relentless assault on the Canadian bowlers. The duo stitched together a blistering unbeaten partnership of 208 runs off just 125 balls. Smit Patel reached his maiden ODI century, finishing with 152* (12 fours, 4 sixes), while Milind Kumar smashed a rapid 115* off 67 deliveries, including 17 boundaries and five sixes.
This partnership is now the second-highest in USA’s ODI history, and Smit’s individual score stands as the third-best ever by a USA batter. Milind also holds the second-highest score for USA, with his 155* against UAE in 2024.
In response, Canada never looked in contention to chase down the mammoth target of 362. Wickets fell at regular intervals, and only Mansab Gill’s fighting 54* lower down the order offered some resistance. The Canadian innings folded for just 192. For USA, Sanjay Krishnamurthi (3/10), Harmeet Singh (2/38), and Noshtush Kenjige (2/41) led the bowling attack, with Milind Kumar also contributing two wickets.
With this emphatic win, USA now holds second place in the Cricket World Cup League 2 standings, having collected 24 points from 17 matches. They trail the Netherlands, who have 26 points from 20 games, and are well-positioned to claim the top spot as the tournament progresses.
This result also highlights the growing rivalry between USA and Canada, with the hosts clearly asserting their dominance in this latest chapter.
