Apple May Unveil “Apple Intelligence” AI Features in iOS 18

Reports indicate that Apple will introduce a suite of AI-powered features under the “Apple Intelligence” banner during the WWDC keynote on Monday.

This clever play on the AI acronym marks a significant step forward in integrating artificial intelligence into Apple’s ecosystem.

The forthcoming iOS 18 will heavily emphasize productivity enhancements and everyday task assistance, embedding AI deeply into Apple’s system apps. Among the standout features is the ability for Safari to generate summaries of web pages, and for Messages and Mail to offer rich, context-aware replies.

Additionally, an AI-powered algorithm will streamline email organization, ensuring a tidier inbox, while Messages will summarize notifications to keep users informed at a glance.

The Photos app is set to receive advanced editing tools, including Apple’s version of the Smart Eraser, akin to Google’s Photos app feature. These enhancements promise to elevate the photo editing experience for iOS users.

Significant improvements to Siri and Xcode for code compilation are also in development, although these upgrades are expected to be rolled out publicly next year.

Apple is also injecting some fun into its AI advancements. A generative AI will create emojis on the fly, tailored to the user’s text, expanding beyond the Unicode consortium’s standard emoji set. This feature is set to bring a new level of personalization and creativity to messaging.

To power these AI capabilities, Apple will utilize a combination of on-device and cloud computing. Notably, renowned tech journalist Mark Gurman has confirmed OpenAI’s involvement in some of iOS 18’s AI tools.

Aware of potential privacy concerns, Apple is taking robust measures to safeguard user data. The company will employ confidential computing designs for data processing, avoid building user profiles based on customer data, and transparently inform users about how their data will be used.

As the tech world eagerly awaits the official unveiling, it’s clear that “Apple Intelligence” will be a cornerstone of iOS 18, promising to revolutionize how users interact with their devices.
