Bella Hadid opens up about struggles with chronic Lyme disease

Supermodel Bella Hadid has once again shed light on her ongoing battle with Lyme disease, a chronic illness she has been managing for years.

The 28-year-old American beauty has spoken candidly about how the condition continues to affect her daily life, both physically and emotionally.

Hadid, who was diagnosed with Lyme disease back in 2010 alongside her mother Yolanda Hadid—well known from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills—has often used her platform to raise awareness about the condition. Lyme disease, a bacterial infection transmitted by ticks, leads to symptoms such as fatigue, joint pain, and neurological issues. For Bella, the impact of the disease is deeply personal and often invisible to others.

In a recent interview with British Vogue, Hadid shared just how debilitating her symptoms can be. “It’s hard to take a shower most days,” she admitted. “Which I promise, guys, if you’re reading this—I shower every day.” Despite trying to inject some humor into her comment, Bella Hadid highlighted the very real physical and mental challenges of living with a chronic illness.

The model explained that something as routine as getting out of bed, showering, and preparing breakfast can feel like major achievements on her more difficult days. “If I have one day off, and I can get in the shower and make myself breakfast, I see that as an accomplishment,” she said.

Hadid also opened up about a recent tough morning. “Our interview today was at 3 p.m. I was in excruciating pain until 11 a.m. and had a very tough start to my day,” she revealed. She then asked the interviewer to portray her struggle in a more graceful, less dramatic way—though her honesty resonates with many dealing with similar conditions.

Bella Hadid continues to be an outspoken advocate for chronic illness awareness, using her platform not only to shine on international runways, but also to inspire others facing invisible battles every day.
