ISLAMABAD: Dr. Muhammad Ashfaq Ahmed has been appointed as new chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Tuesday.
Dr. Ashfaq is the sixth chairman of the revenue body during the current PTI government. He is 31st chairman of the board, sources confirmed.
He was working as Member Inland Revenue Operations. Dr. Ashfaq is replacing Asim Ahmad, who was appointed on April 09, 2021 as the chairman.
Dr. Muhammad Ashfaq Ahmed, Member Inland Revenue (Operations) recently included in a committee constituted by the United Nations on taxation matters.
In another major development, Waqar Masood, Special Advisor on Revenue to the Prime Minister, has also resigned.
The sources said that the change in top brass was due to a conflict with the finance minister.
Meanwhile, other sources said that the these changes were expected because of the new fiscal year and huge targets assigned to the FBR.
