Dua Lipa has filed a lawsuit against Samsung, accusing the tech giant of using her image without permission in a marketing campaign.
The complaint was filed on May 8 in the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
According to the legal filing, Samsung allegedly used a copyrighted backstage photograph of Lipa printed on cardboard packaging for television products sold across the United States.
Singer claims unauthorized commercial use of image
The 30-year-old singer and songwriter claims she did not approve the use of her image and that the company continued using it even after being notified.
Her legal team states that she contacted Samsung after discovering the image and requested its removal, but the company allegedly refused and responded in a “dismissive and callous” manner.
The complaint argues that Lipa had no control or input over the use of her likeness in the campaign.
$15 million damages sought
Lipa is reportedly seeking at least $15 million in damages, along with any profits Samsung may have earned from the alleged unauthorized use of her image.
The image in question was reportedly taken backstage at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2024.
Court documents state that the singer did not authorize or consent to the use of her photograph for commercial packaging.
Cease-and-desist allegedly ignored
According to the filing, Lipa’s representatives sent cease-and-desist notices after discovering what they described as a violation of her publicity rights around June 2025.
Despite this, the complaint claims Samsung continued distributing the products featuring her image.
“The infringing conduct makes a mockery of her hard work in establishing a successful brand,” the filing reportedly stated.
Case highlights celebrity image rights issues
The lawsuit adds to growing legal disputes involving celebrities and unauthorized use of their likeness in commercial advertising.
The case is currently ongoing, and Samsung has not publicly responded in detail to the allegations.
