Walt Disney on Wednesday released the final trailer for its upcoming live-action adaptation of Moana, offering fans a fresh look at Dwayne Johnson reprising his role as the demigod Maui ahead of the film’s theatrical release next month.

The trailer showcases Johnson’s transformation into the larger-than-life character, complete with Maui’s signature appearance, while introducing audiences to newcomer Catherine Laga’aia as Moana, the determined wayfinder chosen by the ocean for a new adventure.

“The ocean chose them. Tickets are now on sale for #Moana! Only in theatres JULY 10th!!” Johnson wrote on social media while sharing the trailer with fans.

The latest preview also confirms the return of Jemaine Clement as Tamatoa, the flamboyant giant crab character he voiced in the original 2016 animated film.

The cast further includes Rena Owen, John Tui and Frankie Adams in key roles.

The film follows Moana as she answers the ocean’s call and embarks on a journey beyond her island home of Motunui. Disney is aiming to recreate the success of the original animated musical, which became a global hit after its premiere in 2016.

The trailer quickly gained traction across social media platforms, where fans expressed excitement about the upcoming release.

“I can’t wait to see this!!” one user commented, while another wrote, “Still love Hei Hei the most.” A third added, “Wow, can’t wait.”

The original Moana premiered in November 2016 and became one of Disney’s most successful animated franchises. Its sequel, Moana 2, was released in November 2024 and further expanded the story of the Polynesian heroine.

Disney’s live-action Moana is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on July 10, with ticket sales already underway as the studio builds momentum for one of its most anticipated family releases of the summer.
