FBR Exempts Categories of Taxpayers from Tax Return Filing

Karachi, September 26, 2023 – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced that certain categories of taxpayers are exempt from filing annual income tax returns for the tax year 2023.

This exemption is granted in accordance with Section 115 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.

According to officials, the following categories of individuals are not required to furnish a return of income for the tax year:

(a) Widow: Individuals who are widowed.

(b) Orphan below the age of twenty-five years: Individuals who are orphans and are below the age of twenty-five.

(c) Disabled person: Individuals who are disabled.

(d) Non-resident person: In the case of ownership of immovable property, non-resident individuals.

It is important to note that the deadline for filing income tax returns for the tax year 2023 is September 30. This deadline applies to various categories of taxpayers, including salaried individuals, businesspersons, Associations of Persons (AOPs), and corporate entities with special tax years. All eligible taxpayers are required to submit their annual income tax returns and wealth statements by this deadline.
