FBR Initiates Date of Birth Verification for Customs Officials

Islamabad, May 8, 2024 – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has commenced a comprehensive verification of date of birth records for officials within Pakistan Customs, aiming to streamline the process of managing retirement cases and other related administrative matters.

In a directive issued on Wednesday, the FBR instructed all chief collectors of Customs, director generals of the Customs Department, and all collectors of Customs / Directors of Customs Department to ensure the verification of date of birth for officers and officials ranging from BS-1 to BS-16 and Time Scale-17.

This verification initiative comes in response to concerns raised during the processing of retirement cases, where discrepancies in the dates of birth of officers and officials were noted. These discrepancies have led to complications and delays in the administration of retirement benefits and other related processes.

FBR Chairman has expressed serious concerns over these issues, highlighting that incorrect dates of birth have been submitted to the FBR by various field offices, impacting the overall efficiency of the human resource management within the Customs Department. The chairman has underscored the need for strict compliance with verification procedures to prevent such errors in the future.

The verification process will require customs officials to compile detailed information for each employee, including name, designation, date of birth as recorded on various documents such as educational certificates, CNIC, FPSC’s records, and the FBR’s Human Resource Information System (HRIS).

The heads of customs field formations are tasked with certifying and verifying the accuracy of the data related to officials in BS-1 to BS-16 and Time Scale-17. They are instructed to ensure that this task is completed within a fortnight and that the verified data is forwarded to the FBR for further review and record-updating purposes.

This initiative is part of a broader effort by the FBR to enhance the accuracy and reliability of its internal records, which are crucial for the effective management of its workforce. By ensuring that all personal records are accurate and up-to-date, the FBR aims to improve its administrative capabilities and provide timely and accurate benefits to its retiring employees.

The FBR’s move to verify and correct the dates of birth of Pakistan Customs officials reflects its commitment to administrative excellence and the importance of maintaining accurate personnel records to support effective governance and service delivery.
