FBR Issues List of Unverified Dates of Birth for Customs Officers

Karachi, May 23, 2024 — The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Thursday released a list of customs officers whose dates of birth (DOB) remain unverified in official records.

This move follows concerns over inaccuracies in processing retirement cases and other related matters.

In an office memorandum addressed to customs field formations, the FBR highlighted the issue, noting that the correct dates of birth for some officers had not been accurately considered during the forwarding of cases to the FBR. This oversight has raised significant concerns within the FBR.

The FBR chairman has taken serious note of these omissions and has mandated the verification of the DOB for each officer within the Pakistan Customs Service (PCS). To address this issue, the FBR has undertaken a thorough verification process for those officers whose information and documents are available.

However, the FBR has identified 49 officers whose DOB could not be verified due to the unavailability of the requisite documents and information. The list of these officers has been issued, and the FBR has requested immediate action to rectify the situation.

“It is imperative that the correct dates of birth for our officers are accurately recorded and verified to ensure the smooth processing of retirement and other allied matters,” stated an FBR official. “The integrity of our records is paramount, and we must ensure all data is accurate and up-to-date.”

To expedite this process, the FBR has instructed the concerned heads of customs field formations to certify or verify the DOB of BS-17 and BS-18 officers and submit this information to the FBR by May 27, 2024. This deadline emphasizes the urgency of resolving these discrepancies.

“The verification of these dates of birth is crucial not only for administrative accuracy but also for maintaining the trust and efficiency within our customs operations,” the official added.

This directive comes as part of the FBR’s broader efforts to improve administrative processes and ensure transparency and accuracy in its records. The FBR is committed to addressing and rectifying any lapses in record-keeping that may affect the efficient functioning of the customs service.

Customs field formations across the country are now tasked with the rapid verification and certification of the DOB for the listed officers. This proactive approach aims to prevent any further delays or issues in processing official matters related to these officers.

The FBR’s commitment to ensuring accurate and verified records underscores its dedication to upholding the integrity and efficiency of Pakistan’s customs services. The timely verification and submission of the required data by the customs field formations will be critical in achieving this goal.
