Hyundai Electrifies AutoMobility LA with 2025 IONIQ 5 N

Hyundai introduced its latest electrified sports vehicle, the 2025 IONIQ 5 N, to North American media during a pre-show event at AutoMobility LA. The IONIQ 5 N marks a significant step in Hyundai’s N brand electrification vision, providing a thrilling driving experience on both the road and track for performance enthusiasts.

As the inaugural electrified model in the Hyundai N lineup, the IONIQ 5 N showcases the brand’s commitment to high-performance electric vehicles, with more electrified N models in the pipeline. Scheduled to hit Hyundai dealerships in March 2024, the IONIQ 5 N builds on the acclaimed Hyundai E-GMP platform.

Corner Rascal Capabilities with Dual-Motor AWD

The IONIQ 5 N introduces Corner Rascal capabilities, enhancing its body-in-white structure with 42 additional welding points and 6.9 feet of structural adhesives. Rally-inspired handling is achieved through reinforced motor and battery mounting, enhanced front and rear subframes, and World Rally Championship-inspired integrated drive axles.

The steering system is strengthened for improved rigidity, delivering a more direct and communicative driving experience. The N Pedal feature, inspired by Hyundai’s championship-winning i20 N WRC cars, provides instant turn-in behavior and enhanced throttle sensitivity for agile cornering.

Advanced Drift and Torque Distribution

The IONIQ 5 N comes equipped with the N Drift Optimizer, maintaining a desired drift angle through real-time control responses. The N Torque Distribution system allows the driver to adjust front and rear torque distribution across 11 levels.

The electronic limited-slip differential at the rear axle optimizes cornering performance, while the N-tuned brakes, featuring 15.75-inch front rotors, ensure exceptional braking capability.

Enhanced Electric Propulsion System

Powered by an improved electric propulsion system, the IONIQ 5 N boasts an estimated 641 horsepower with N Grin Boost engaged. The two-stage inverter enhances energy efficiency, and the new 84 kWh battery provides robust power output.

Technical features such as N Grin Boost, N Launch Control, and Track SOC contribute to the vehicle’s impressive track performance.

Optimized Thermal Management

The IONIQ 5 N sets a new standard for thermal management on the racetrack, with enhanced resistance to heat-induced power degradation. The advanced thermal management system includes increased cooling area and volume, improved motor oil cooling, and a battery chiller.

The N Race feature allows drivers to optimize energy consumption, offering strategic choices between ‘Endurance’ and ‘Sprint’ modes.

N e-Shift and N Active Sound+

In line with the Everyday Sportscar philosophy, the IONIQ 5 N delivers an engaging shift feeling through the integrated N e-shift and N Active Sound+. N e-shift simulates an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, providing a precise and interactive driving experience.

N Active Sound+ adds a futuristic electrified sound, enhancing the overall driving experience with customizable sound themes.

Performance-Enhancing Design

The IONIQ 5 N features performance-oriented design elements, including a wing-type rear spoiler, contrasting black trim, and forged 21-inch aluminum wheels with Pirelli P Zero tires. The exterior boasts aerodynamic enhancements, while the interior showcases N-branded elements, including a redesigned steering wheel, seats, and door scuff panels. Sustainable materials are incorporated throughout the vehicle, aligning with Hyundai’s commitment to eco-friendly practices.

Scheduled for release in March 2024, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N is poised to redefine the high-performance electric vehicle landscape, offering a thrilling driving experience for enthusiasts both on and off the track.
