IAP: Construction Industry Embracing Modern Materials

PkRevenue.com – The construction industry in Pakistan is making strides towards sustainability by adopting modern and eco-friendly construction materials, according to an official from the Institute of Architects Pakistan (IAP).

To showcase the industry’s commitment to sustainability and raise awareness about modern construction materials like value-added PVC products, the IAP recently organized IAPEX 2024, a three-day event that drew architects, interior designers, students, experts, and industry players.

Mishaal Merchant, Chairman of IAP, emphasized the pivotal role of the construction sector in economic development. He cited a report by the Pakistan Credit Rating Agency (PACRA), which indicated that the sector contributed approximately 11.5% to industrial activities and around 2.7% to the GDP in 1QFY24. The aftermath of the 2022 floods and changing global trends have prompted the local construction industry to align with international standards and promote sustainable materials.

Visitors to IAPEX showed particular interest in downstream PVC products, displayed by ThinkPVC, a retail outlet owned by Engro Polymer & Chemicals (EPCL). These products included pipes, fittings, doors, windows, roofing, and wall panels.

Muhammad Idrees, Chief Commercial Officer at EPCL, stressed the importance of modernizing Pakistan’s construction sector to address urban housing challenges. He highlighted ThinkPVC’s innovative solutions, which offer both aesthetic appeal and cost-effectiveness while meeting evolving climate demands. Idrees noted that PVC is preferred by architects and developers globally for its durability, aesthetics, and cost-effectiveness compared to other materials.

ThinkPVC also unveiled Vero, a new range of kitchens and vanities, at IAPEX. This launch aims to set new standards of quality and craftsmanship in the Pakistani market, encouraging import substitution and local market development in line with global excellence standards.

The collaboration between industry players and organizations like IAP signals a positive shift towards sustainable construction practices in Pakistan, ensuring a more environmentally conscious and economically viable future for the sector.
