Pakistan Customs seizes arms from Afghan vehicle

Pakistan Customs has successfully seized a cache of arms and ammunition from an Afghan registered import vehicle at Torkham station, as announced by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Friday.

This operation aligns with the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan, emphasizing the need for a robust crackdown on the illegal movement of contraband items.

The vigilant and consistent efforts of Customs staff stationed at Torkham Customs Station led to the successful seizure of a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition during the inspection of an Afghan registered import vehicle. The seized items include two F/O M4A1 Carbine Rifles, seven F/O Glock Pistol 9MM, eight Beretta Pistol barrels, and various other arms and ammunition.

Following the seizure, the Customs authorities have taken decisive action by lodging a First Information Report (FIR), and the driver of the vehicle has been apprehended. The seized ammunition is now under the control of authorities as criminal investigations progress.

This operation highlights the dedication of Pakistan Customs to curb the illicit movement of arms and ammunition across borders. Torkham, being a key border crossing point between Pakistan and Afghanistan, requires heightened vigilance to prevent the unauthorized transfer of weapons and ensure national security.

The successful operation is a testament to the effectiveness of the ongoing efforts to strengthen border control and prevent the illegal trade of goods that pose a threat to public safety. The Prime Minister’s directives underscore the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order, especially in regions prone to smuggling and illicit activities.

The seized weapons, including rifles and pistols, indicate the potential dangers that arise from the unauthorized movement of arms across borders. Such actions not only pose a threat to the security of both countries but also contribute to regional instability.

Pakistan Customs continues to play a pivotal role in safeguarding national interests by implementing stringent measures to curb illegal activities, particularly at border points. The collaboration between Customs authorities and law enforcement agencies is essential to ensuring the effectiveness of these operations and maintaining the integrity of border security.

As investigations unfold, it is expected that the authorities will gain insights into the origin, intended destination, and individuals or groups involved in the attempted smuggling of these weapons. The apprehension of the driver and the initiation of criminal proceedings send a strong message that attempts to breach the law and compromise national security will be met with swift and decisive action.

The successful seizure at Torkham serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by border security forces and the need for continuous efforts to prevent the illegal movement of goods that can jeopardize public safety and regional stability.
