Islamabad, August 25, 2024 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday directed the Ministry of Information Technology and other relevant departments to implement the e-office system across all government offices within a month.
Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized that any delay in this initiative would not be tolerated, as the government aims to transition to a paperless work environment to enhance efficiency and transparency.
In a meeting held at the PM Office, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made it clear that starting next month, all government offices must conduct their file work through the e-office system. “There should be no file work without e-office in the government offices from next month,” the Prime Minister stated, highlighting that the implementation of this system is a top priority for the government. He further directed all officers to ensure compliance with the new digital workflow process.
The move towards an e-office system is part of the government’s broader strategy to promote digitization and improve governance. The Prime Minister underscored that this initiative is vital for streamlining operations, reducing bureaucratic delays, and fostering greater transparency in governmental procedures.
On the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz, staff at the PM Office have already completed training for the e-office system, demonstrating the government’s commitment to leading by example. Last week, the Prime Minister himself began receiving files through the e-office system, marking a significant step towards digital governance.
“The e-office is an important step towards improving governance and promoting digitization in the country,” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said. He noted that the shift to a digital system would not only expedite administrative processes but also ensure that all actions are recorded and traceable, thereby increasing accountability.
To ensure swift implementation, the Prime Minister has also directed that a progress report on the e-office rollout be presented within the next two weeks. This report is expected to provide insights into the challenges faced during the implementation phase and the measures being taken to overcome them.
The e-office system, once fully implemented, is anticipated to revolutionize the way government offices operate, reducing reliance on physical paperwork and minimizing the risk of document misplacement or loss. It will also facilitate quicker decision-making and enhance overall productivity within government departments.
As the one-month deadline approaches, all eyes are on the Ministry of Information Technology and other relevant departments to see if they can meet the ambitious target set by the Prime Minister. The successful implementation of the e-office system could set a precedent for future digital transformations within the government sector.
