SBP to Organize Inaugural Financial Literacy Week from March 4

Karachi, March 1, 2024 – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is set to launch the inaugural Pakistan Financial Literacy Week (PFLW) 2024, commencing on March 4, 2024. Governor Jameel Ahmad will officiate the event at an inaugural ceremony hosted at the SBP Karachi.

With the theme ‘Digital Bankari – fori aur asaan’ (Digital Banking – Quick and Easy), the week-long initiative aims to enhance financial literacy across the nation.

Focus on Digital Financial Services:

Running from March 4 to March 8, 2024, the Pakistan Financial Literacy Week will encompass a diverse array of both physical and virtual activities accessible throughout the country. In collaboration with commercial banks and SBP field offices, 150 Financial Literacy Camps are slated to take place in 60 cities, offering practical insights into digital financial services. Topics covered will include the recently introduced RAAST (Instant Digital Payment System), QR codes, and Asaan Mobile/Digital Accounts, along with general aspects of financial literacy.

The emphasis on digital banking aligns with the global trend towards technology-driven financial services, reflecting the SBP’s commitment to advancing financial inclusion through innovative and accessible means.

Educational Outreach to Students:

Recognizing the pivotal role of financial education in shaping the future, the PFLW incorporates an essential outreach to students at all levels across the country. Competitions on various themes related to digital finance are scheduled to take place in 16 field offices of SBP-Banking Services Corporation. These competitions aim to instill financial awareness and responsible money management skills from an early age. Additionally, an online video/poster competition has been organized for the general public, encouraging widespread participation.

Global Alignment and SBP’s Pioneering Effort:

The initiation of Pakistan Financial Literacy Week aligns with global initiatives such as Global Money Week, showcasing SBP’s commitment to championing financial literacy and inclusion on a national scale. The week-long event reflects a significant stride by the SBP, marking a pioneering effort to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the evolving landscape of digital finance.

The theme, ‘Digital Bankari – fori aur asaan,’ not only underscores the immediacy and simplicity of digital banking but also highlights its potential to empower individuals and communities. As digital financial services become increasingly integral to the economic fabric, the SBP’s initiative demonstrates a forward-looking approach in preparing individuals across Pakistan for the digital financial future.

Pakistan Financial Literacy Week 2024 promises to be a transformative initiative, bridging the gap in financial awareness and empowering individuals with the tools to make informed financial decisions. As the SBP takes the lead in fostering a financially literate and inclusive society, the week-long event is expected to leave a lasting impact on the nation’s financial landscape, paving the way for a more digitally savvy and financially empowered population.
