SDGs Goodwill Ambassador Haris Rauf Welcomed in Pakistan’s Parliament

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Zahid Akram Durrani, and Convener of the SDGs Parliamentary Task Force, Romina Khursheed Alam, warmly welcomed the renowned cricketer, Haris Rauf, as the SDGs goodwill ambassador in Parliament House, Islamabad today.

Romina Khursheed Alam, the Convener of the SDGs Task Force, provided a comprehensive overview of the significant milestones accomplished by the SDGs Secretariat.

She emphasized that the Parliament is first in the world to fully embrace the SDGs, recognizing their importance for progress and development of the country.

Furthermore, Romina Khursheed Alam briefed the attendees on the fundamental goals of the SDGs, emphasizing the Secretariat’s focus on empowering the youth through training programs to achieve these goals.

Shahida Rehmani, Secretary of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC), was also present and highlighted the legislation aimed at promoting gender equality and empowering the younger generation in Pakistan.

Deputy Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani and SDGs Task Force Convener Romina Khursheed Alam warmly welcomed Haris to the Parliament, expressing their confidence in his pivotal role in advancing the Parliament’s efforts to attain the SDGs goals and secure a prosperous future for the people of Pakistan. Later on, Haris also observed the proceedings of the Budget Session in the National Assembly.

Additionally, Shamoon Hashmi, the Special Secretary of the National Assembly Secretariat, highlighted that the Parliament has become the first environmentally-friendly “Green Parliament” in the region.

He also mentioned that Pakistan was a pioneer in introducing the trend of net metering through parliamentary initiatives.
