Chinese EV Brand Aito, backed by tech giant Huawei, is revving up production of its popular M9 model with the help of cutting-edge diecasting technology. This innovation is poised to significantly increase output and meet the surging demand for the electric SUV.

Aito Leverages Diecasting for Streamlined Manufacturing

Aito, formed in 2021 through a collaboration between Huawei and Seres, is at the forefront of electric vehicle technology. The company’s HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) model allows Seres to focus on car production, while Huawei provides advanced intelligent vehicle solutions.

Seres recently deployed a massive 10,000-ton diecasting machine, the Wencan IDRA9800T, to streamline the production of the Aito M9.

Diecasting Benefits: Efficiency and Enhanced Performance

Diecasting offers a multitude of advantages over traditional car manufacturing methods. This technique utilizes high pressure to cast molten metal into a mold, creating a single, complex piece. In the case of the Aito M9, diecasting is likely being used for the chassis, significantly reducing the number of parts needed.

Estimates suggest an impressive 80 percent reduction in parts and a staggering 1,440 fewer solder joints. Seres boasts that this approach achieves the industry’s highest level of diecasting part integration, resulting in a 23 percent increase in torsional rigidity.

This translates to a more streamlined manufacturing process, improved production efficiency, and a potentially more durable and energy-efficient vehicle.

Increased Production to Meet High Demand

The Aito M9 has garnered significant interest, with over 100,000 orders placed. Deliveries began earlier this year, but Seres aims to ramp up production with the help of the new diecasting machine. The company hopes to achieve monthly deliveries exceeding 15,000 units.

Diecasting Gains Traction in the Chinese EV Market

Aito isn’t the only Chinese EV manufacturer embracing diecasting. Tesla pioneered the use of large-scale diecasting technology, known as Giga Press, and several Chinese carmakers are following suit. This trend highlights the focus on simplifying production, reducing costs, and enhancing vehicle rigidity for improved safety.

Xpeng utilizes a 12,000-ton machine for its X9 MPV, while Nio also incorporates diecasting in its production processes. Xiaomi recently announced its adoption of diecasting for the rear floor assembly of the Xiaomi SU7, resulting in a significant reduction in parts and a faster production cycle.

The implementation of diecasting technology by Aito signifies a significant advancement in Chinese EV production. This approach has the potential to revolutionize the industry by streamlining manufacturing, boosting efficiency, and ultimately delivering exceptional electric vehicles to consumers.
