The concern revolves around the possibility of the clutch pressure line melting, leading to fluid leakage. This leakage can impede the shifting of gears in manual-equipped models, posing a safety risk to drivers. The root cause of this issue is attributed to a missing or improperly installed barrel nut that attaches the line to the firewall stud.
The risk escalates if the clutch line comes into contact with hot exhaust components, causing the fluid to leak and potentially ignite. Ford emphasizes that such a scenario could result in smoke or, in extreme cases, a fire under the hood, posing a significant hazard.
Drivers may also experience difficulties in gear shifting, and there’s a risk of engine stalling upon throttle tip-out, heightening the likelihood of accidents.
Ford’s proactive approach to safety led to the discovery of this issue after reviewing reports of underhood fires in manual-equipped 2024 Mustangs. While the automaker acknowledges two incidents of fires and one report of smoke, fortunately, no injuries or accidents have been reported thus far.
Owners of affected vehicles are urged to contact their dealer immediately for a prompt inspection and repair. Ford has made it clear that a significant portion of the affected vehicles are yet to be delivered to customers, underscoring the importance of addressing the issue proactively.
The repair process is readily available, and owners will receive notification via mail starting from June 17, detailing the necessary steps to ensure their vehicle’s safety.
