Hollywood is abuzz with the latest news from Michael B. Jordan, who confirmed that the highly anticipated sequel to Will Smith’s blockbuster “I Am Legend” is officially in the works.
During a recent interview, Jordan, 37, shared details about the film’s status and production plans, igniting excitement among fans of the original movie.
“We’re still working on the script and getting that up to par,” Jordan revealed, indicating that while the project is advancing, there are still elements to finalize before production begins. “It doesn’t have a release date or anything like that. I’m not sure exactly where we’re going to be filming that one, but I’m really excited to get in front of the camera with him [Smith].”
Jordan expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with Will Smith, whom he has admired for years. “The Oscar winner is somebody that I’ve looked up to for a really long time, so to be able to work with Will is something I’m really looking forward to. I’m really excited.”
The sequel to Smith’s 2007 post-apocalyptic film was first announced in March 2022. The original movie, based on Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel, followed scientist Robert Neville, portrayed by Smith, as he navigated a world where a deadly disease had transformed most of humanity into monstrous, zombie-like creatures.
In December 2023, Smith hinted at key details about “I Am Legend 2,” revealing that the sequel would build upon an alternate ending featured in the DVD version of the first film. While the theatrical release depicted Robert Neville sacrificing himself, the alternate ending showed him surviving, setting the stage for the sequel’s storyline.
“So we are going with the mythology of the DVD version where my character lived,” Smith explained at the time, offering a glimpse into the direction the new film will take.
