Karachi – The Port Qasim Authority (PQA) has released details of shipping activities taking place on Monday, December 11, 2023, revealing a bustling maritime scene at one of Pakistan’s key ports.

On Sunday, two ships, namely the Basrah and Chem-road Quest, were scheduled to load and offload rice and chemicals, and they berthed at the Multi-Purpose Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal, respectively. Meanwhile, four additional ships—Stamina SW, Gaschem Warnow, DSI Drammen, and El-Giznur CEBI—arrived at the outer anchorage of the port during the last 24 hours. These vessels are set to handle various cargoes, including rice, cement, chemicals, and coal.

During this period, a total of six ships were actively engaged at PQA berths. Notably, the bulk cargo carrier ‘Armonia GR’ left the port earlier today, while another ship, Egret Bulker, is expected to sail this afternoon.

The cargo volume for the last 24 hours reached an impressive 54,456 tonnes, comprising 30,940 tonnes of imported cargo and 23,516 tonnes of export cargo. The handling involved 1,087 containers (164 TEUs for imports and 923 TEUs for exports), showcasing the diverse range of goods passing through the port.

Looking ahead, nine ships are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. Among them, two ships—New Asoura and DSI Drammen—are scheduled to load and offload cement and coal, while another ship, Kyparissia, is set to handle containers. These vessels are expected to take berths at the Multi-Purpose Terminal, Bulk Terminal, and Container Terminal, respectively, today. Additionally, the container ship ‘MSC Jemima’ is due to arrive at Port Qasim on Tuesday, adding to the dynamic maritime activity.

The revealed shipping activities underscore the strategic importance of Port Qasim as a crucial gateway for trade in the region. The diverse range of commodities being handled, including essential goods such as rice and chemicals, highlights the port’s role in facilitating both imports and exports, contributing significantly to the national economy.
