President Hails Mohtasib for Providing Rs 1.26 Billion Relief

President Asif Ali Zardari has commended the Banking Mohtasib for its remarkable efforts in processing over 25,000 complaints and extending monetary relief amounting to Rs. 1.26 billion to banking customers during the year 2023.

He also acknowledged the Mohtasib’s overall contribution, having provided relief totaling Rs. 6.4 billion to complainants since its inception.

The President conveyed his appreciation during a meeting with Mr. Sirajuddin Aziz, the Banking Mohtasib Pakistan (BMP), who presented the Annual Report of the BMP at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

In his briefing, the Banking Ombudsman emphasized the crucial role played by the Banking Mohtasib in swiftly addressing the grievances of banking customers who have fallen victim to fraudsters, thereby safeguarding their hard-earned money and life savings. He highlighted the recent introduction of a user-friendly Online Portal by BMP, aimed at simplifying the process for complainants to register their grievances.

Recognizing the significance of providing prompt justice to fraud victims, President Zardari underscored the pivotal role of the banking Mohtasib in delivering free-of-cost justice to the people and promoting good governance. He emphasized the importance of keeping pace with technological advancements to ensure the expeditious resolution of complaints.

Furthermore, the President stressed the need to raise awareness about the role and services of the Banking Mohtasib in addressing instances of maladministration by banks. Enhancing awareness would enable a larger segment of the population to benefit from the services provided by the Mohtasib.

The commendation from President Zardari underscores the vital role played by the Banking Mohtasib in upholding consumer rights and ensuring accountability within the banking sector.
