SBP Announces Bank Holiday on Youm-e-Takbeer

PKRevenue.com – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that all banks will observe a holiday on May 28, 2024, in honor of Youm-e-Takbeer.

This decision, communicated through a circular to all presidents and CEOs of banks, development financial institutions, and microfinance banks, designates the day as a public holiday as declared by the Government of Pakistan.

The announcement came following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s declaration on Monday that May 28, 2024, will be a public holiday to commemorate Youm-e-Takbeer. This significant day marks the anniversary of Pakistan’s nuclear tests conducted in the Chagai hills of Balochistan in 1998, a pivotal moment in the nation’s defense history.

In a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the profound importance of Youm-e-Takbeer, emphasizing its role in unifying the Pakistani nation in a collective commitment to national defense. “Youm-e-Takbeer reminds the Pakistani nation of unity to make the defense of the country invincible,” he declared.

Reflecting on the historical events of 1998, Prime Minister Sharif underscored the resolute stance of the Pakistani people and leadership against international pressure. “On this day in 1998, the entire nation decided for the integrity of the country, that there would be no compromise by accepting any external pressure on national defense,” he remarked.

The Prime Minister also called for national unity, urging all Pakistanis to rally together under one flag to fortify the nation’s defense. “Youm-e-Takbeer reminds us of becoming united under the one flag to strengthen the defense of this country alongside our political and defense forces,” he said.

This public holiday serves as a reminder of Pakistan’s commitment to its defense capabilities and the enduring spirit of its people. The SBP’s closure on May 28, 2024, ensures that the nation can properly observe and reflect on this momentous day in its history.
