FBR Invites Applications for Appointment of Advocates to Strengthen Legal Team

Karachi, July 17, 2023 – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced an open invitation for applications for the appointment of advocates, aiming to assemble a smart and proficient legal team to support its tax department.

With its offices spread across the country, the FBR is in the process of developing a smart legal team to represent the department in Inland Revenue cases before various courts. The legal team will be recruited at the regional level, stationed at different locations such as Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan Sialkot, Bahawalpur, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Quetta.

The responsibilities of the selected advocates will include providing legal opinions, endorsements, and recommendations on taxation, services, and matters related to Anti-Money Laundering (AML) or Criminal Law. They will also represent the FBR before various courts when directed, assist in the preparation of comments for departmental vetting and court submissions, and promptly convey court directions to the department.

Interested candidates are required to apply for only one station, choosing the station of their residence, domicile, or practice. Applications for multiple stations will not be considered. Eligible candidates will receive interview/call letters issued by the head of the respective station, following the guidelines prescribed in FBR’s policy of advocates.

Applicants must ensure that their applications are complete and submitted before the due date. They will be required to present original documents at the time of the interview. The FBR will not provide any travel or daily allowance for the interview process. The Competent Authority retains the right to adjust the number of Panel Advocates or cancel the hiring process at any stage.

Remuneration for the selected advocates will be provided on a case-by-case basis, following the FBR’s professional fee structure.

To be eligible for consideration, candidates must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law. If the degree is obtained from a foreign university, candidates must submit an equivalence certificate from the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Additionally, candidates must be enrolled in the Pakistan Bar Council as an Advocate High Court and have at least three years of practice/experience in taxation or service matters. A good reputation, professional competence, excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Urdu are also required.

Interested candidates are requested to apply by sending their applications, along with their curriculum vitae, copy of CNIC, High Court enrollment card, academic credentials, and a list of reported/unreported judgments to the office of Second Secretary (Panel Advocates), Room No. 517, 5th Floor, Legal Wing, Federal Board of Revenue (HQ), Islamabad within 15 days from the publication of this advertisement.
