FBR Takes Action: Principal Appraiser of Karachi Customs Suspended

Karachi, July 3, 2023: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has taken disciplinary action against a principal appraiser of Karachi Customs.

In an official notification issued on Monday, the FBR announced the suspension of Salman Ahmad, Principal Appraiser (BS-16) from the Directorate of Internal Audit South (Customs) Karachi, with immediate effect.

The suspension comes as a result of the FBR exercising its powers conferred under Rule-5(1) of the Civil Servants (Efficiency & Discipline) Rules, 2020. Salman Ahmad has been placed under suspension for a period of 120 days.

The decision to suspend the principal appraiser indicates the FBR’s commitment to ensuring efficiency and discipline within its workforce. Such actions serve as a reminder that the FBR holds its employees accountable for their actions and enforces strict disciplinary measures when necessary.

The FBR, as the apex revenue collection agency in Pakistan, plays a vital role in regulating customs procedures and ensuring compliance with tax regulations. By taking swift and decisive action in cases of misconduct or negligence, the FBR aims to maintain transparency, fairness, and integrity in its operations.

The suspension of Salman Ahmad sends a clear message that any violations of rules and regulations will not be tolerated within the FBR. The authority’s commitment to upholding discipline and accountability is crucial in maintaining public trust and confidence in the functioning of government institutions.

It is important to note that the suspension of an individual should not be taken as a conclusive determination of guilt. The FBR will likely conduct an internal investigation to ascertain the facts and determine whether further disciplinary action is warranted.

The FBR’s actions reflect its dedication to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of its operations. By taking appropriate measures to address any potential misconduct or inefficiencies, the FBR aims to create a more transparent and accountable revenue collection system that benefits the Pakistani economy as a whole.
