Weather alert of wind-thunderstorm issued for ports

A significant weather alert has been issued for ports and fishermen as the Joint Maritime Information Coordination Center (JMICC) anticipates severe weather conditions on July 29 and 30, 2019. Authorities have been urged to implement precautionary measures to mitigate potential impacts.

JMICC has informed key ports, including Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Port Qasim Authority (PQA), Gwadar Port Authority (GPA), and other stakeholders such as terminal operators and the fishing community, about the activation of monsoon currents over the upper parts of the country.

These currents are expected to extend to central and southern regions within the next 24 to 48 hours, the ports were informed.

A low-pressure system is forecast to develop over Indian Rajasthan on July 28, 2019, the authorities informed the ports. The influence of this system is expected to cause the following weather conditions:

1. Widespread Rains and Wind-Thunderstorms: The regions of Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Hyderabad, Karachi, Shaheed Benazirabad, Kalat, and Naseerabad divisions are anticipated to experience extensive rain and wind-thunderstorms during the period.

2. Scattered Rains and Wind-Thunderstorms: Moderate to heavy isolated falls are expected in Sukkur, Larkana, Zhob, Sibbi, and Naseerabad divisions.

3. Isolated Heavy Falls: The lower Sindh regions, including Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Hyderabad, Karachi, Kalat, and Makran divisions, are predicted to receive heavy isolated rainfall on July 29 and 30, 2019.

The heavy rainfall forecast raises concerns of urban flooding in Karachi, Thatta, and Hyderabad on July 29 and 30. Additionally, the potential for flash flooding in Kalat, Sibbi, and Zhob divisions has been highlighted.

In response to the forecast, JMICC advises all relevant authorities to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent loss of life and damage to property. This includes alerting residents in vulnerable areas, ensuring proper drainage systems are functional, and preparing emergency response teams.

Port authorities and fishermen are particularly urged to heed this advisory, as rough sea conditions could pose significant risks. Maritime activities should be monitored closely, and precautionary measures should be enacted to safeguard lives and assets.

As the region braces for these potentially severe weather events, the importance of preparedness and prompt action cannot be overstated. Authorities are committed to providing continuous updates and support to ensure public safety and minimize disruptions.

For more detailed information and updates, stakeholders are encouraged to stay tuned to official weather bulletins and advisories issued by JMICC and relevant meteorological departments.
