Weather alert of wind-thunderstorm issued for ports

KARACHI: Weather alert of wind-thunderstorm has been issued for ports and fishermen for July 29 – 30, 2019 and authorities have been advised to take precautionary measures.

Joint Maritime Information Coordination Center (JMICC) informed Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Port Qasim Authority (PQA), Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) and other stakeholders including terminals and fishermen that monsoon currents were active over upper parts of the country. These currents are expected to spread to central and southern parts of the country during next 24 hours to 48 hours.

Meanwhile, a low pressure is likely to develop over Indian Rajasthan on July 28, 2019.

Under the influence of this low pressure area following weather is expected:

(a) widespread rains/wind-thunderstorm are expected in Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Hyderabad, Karachi, Shaheed Benazirabad, Kalat and Naseerabad divisions during the period.

(b) Scattered rains/wind-thunderstorm (with isolated moderate to heavy falls) are also expected in Sukkur, Larkana, Zhob, Sibbi and Naseerabad divisions during the period.

(c) Isolated heavy falls are also expected in lowe Sindh (Mirpurkhan, Thatta, Hyderabad, Karachi, Kalat and Makran divisions on July 29 – 30, 2019.

It is advised that heavy falls may generate urban flooding in Karachi, Thatta and Hyderabad divisions on July 29, 30 while flash flooding may take place in Kalat, Sibbi, Zhob divisions during the period.

The maritime center said that all concerned should exercise caution to avoid any loss of lives and damage to public as well as public property.
