The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued directives to customs authorities, emphasizing the need for expeditious clearance of goods related to flood relief operations.

The FBR has communicated instructions to all Chief Collectors of Customs, urging them to establish effective coordination with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs). The objective is to facilitate the swift completion of formalities, enabling the timely clearance of imported relief consignments destined for areas affected by the floods.
To further expedite the relief process, the FBR has reiterated that, effective from August 30, 2022, for a period of 90 days, all types of relief goods imported for flood affectees will be exempted from federal duties and taxes. This exemption includes customs duty, regulatory duty, sales tax, and advance income tax. However, to avail of this exemption, the relief goods must be certified by either the NDMA or a PDMA.
The 90-day exemption period is aimed at providing immediate and comprehensive relief to flood-affected communities. By waiving federal duties and taxes on relief goods, the FBR aims to encourage and support organizations and individuals involved in providing assistance to those in need.
