FBR Takes Action Against Sputnik Shoes Outlets in Karachi for Tax Evasion

Karachi, June 16, 2023: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has taken strict measures against Sputnik Shoes by sealing their outlets in Karachi due to their persistent tax evasion over the years.

In a series of raids conducted by the Corporate Tax Office (CTO) Karachi, a revenue collecting arm of the FBR, two prominent shops affiliated with the renowned shoe brand were sealed. This action comes as a result of a confidential tip-off received by Commissioner CTO, Dr. Najeeb Ahmed Memon, who immediately ordered the CTO Zone II team to undertake a significant covert operation in Karachi.

Commissioner Zone II, along with Deputy Commissioner Naib Ali Pathan, Deputy Commissioner Ghalam Nabi Shah, Assistant Commissioner Natar Ahmed Mari, Shukoor Ahmed Sheikh (Senior Auditor), and representatives from Sputnik Shoes’ President Branch and Tariq Road Branch, led the operation. The team successfully carried out the raid, effectively shutting down the establishments that had been operating without fulfilling their tax obligations for an extended period.

The action taken by the FBR serves as a strong message to all businesses that tax evasion will not be tolerated. It highlights the government’s commitment to enforcing tax compliance and ensuring that all businesses contribute their fair share to the development and progress of the country.

Tax evasion not only deprives the national exchequer of vital revenue but also creates an unfair competitive environment for businesses that diligently fulfill their tax responsibilities. By cracking down on tax evaders, the FBR aims to create a level playing field for all businesses and foster a culture of accountability.

The sealed outlets of Sputnik Shoes will remain closed until they settle their outstanding tax liabilities with the FBR. The FBR has urged other businesses to take this incident as a warning and promptly fulfill their tax obligations to avoid similar consequences.

It is worth mentioning that the FBR has been actively pursuing cases of tax evasion and taking stringent measures against offenders. The revenue authority has been employing a range of tactics, including intelligence-based operations and strict monitoring, to identify tax evaders and hold them accountable.

The FBR’s actions are a testament to the government’s resolve to ensure financial discipline and strengthen the economy. As the authorities continue their efforts to combat tax evasion, it is expected that businesses across the country will take notice and fulfill their tax responsibilities, contributing to the nation’s growth and prosperity.
