Karachi Tax Bar Association Applauds ATIR’s Response on Recovery Stay

Karachi, August 18, 2023 – The Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) has expressed its appreciation for the recent action taken by the Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue (ATIR) in response to stay applications without recovery notices.

In an official statement released on Friday, the KTBA revealed that a productive meeting was held between the President, office bearers, and Executive Committee of the bar with the Chairman of ATIR on August 16, 2023. The meeting primarily revolved around discussing the implications of ATIR’s Circular issued on August 04, 2023.

The esteemed Chairman of ATIR took prompt notice of the matter and, in a progressive move, revised their circular that had been dated August 02, 2023. This revision was conveyed through ATIR’s letter No. F.181-ATP/HQ/(Ad)/2023/661 on August 17, 2023.

Consequently, a positive outcome emerged from this revision: Stay Applications, submitted without recovery notices, will now be accepted by the Appeal Section of ATIR. The specific modification, as conveyed by the statement, is as follows:

“ii. Fresh Stay without recovery notice will be entered in the record of the Appeal Section and fixed at the earliest before a bench with the approval of Chairman or Member (Roster).”
