Pakistan Banks to Close on June 28, 29 & 30 for Eid ul Azha Holidays

Karachi June 23, 2023 – In line with the celebration of Eid ul Azha, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced on Friday that all banks across the country will be closed for three consecutive days from June 28 to 30.

The decision came after the central bank revoked its earlier notification, which had granted only two holidays for this festive occasion.

A circular issued by the SBP and addressed to the presidents and chief executives of all banks and microfinance banks (MFBs) confirmed that the SBP itself will remain closed from June 28 to 30, 2023. These three days have been declared public holidays to commemorate the joyous occasion of Eid ul Azha.

The revised notification regarding Eid holidays was released by the federal government on June 22, 2023, through the Cabinet Division. The notification outlined the following public holiday schedule:

1. For offices observed five days in a week: June 28th, 29th, and 30th, 2023 (Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday) will be designated as public holidays.

2. For offices observing six days working in a week: June 28th to July 1st, 2023 (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) will be observed as public holidays.

Eid ul Azha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is a significant religious event celebrated by Muslims worldwide. The holiday is marked by the sacrifice of livestock, with the meat distributed among family, friends, and the less fortunate.

During these holidays, banks will be closed to the public, and customers are advised to plan their banking transactions accordingly. Online and mobile banking services may still be available, but delays in processing transactions may occur due to reduced staff availability.
