The Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) has announced an extension in the last date for payment and filing of sales tax return for the tax period of July 2021.
The provincial revenue authority issued Circular No. 04 to formalize the extension, taking into account public holidays declared by the government in connection with Ashura.
According to the circular, taxpayers now have until Tuesday, August 24, 2021, to electronically deposit the amount of Sindh sales tax for the tax period of July 2021. Additionally, the deadline for electronically filing the sales tax return for the same period has been extended to Friday, August 27, 2021.
The decision to extend the deadline comes in consideration of public holidays announced by the government on August 18-19, 2021, in observance of Ashura e Muharram.
The SRB’s proactive measure to extend the deadline aims to accommodate taxpayers and provide them with additional time to fulfill their tax obligations without the constraint of public holidays. This move is in line with the SRB’s commitment to facilitating compliance while recognizing the significance of religious observances.
Businesses and individuals in the Sindh province are urged to take advantage of the extended deadline to ensure timely and accurate payment of sales tax and filing of returns. Electronic payment and filing options provide convenience and efficiency for taxpayers, enabling them to fulfill their tax responsibilities with ease.
The extension is expected to alleviate any challenges posed by the public holidays, allowing taxpayers to navigate the tax compliance process smoothly. The SRB’s flexibility in adjusting deadlines in response to special circumstances reflects its commitment to creating a taxpayer-friendly environment.
Taxpayers are encouraged to stay informed about such updates from the SRB to ensure compliance with tax regulations and to take advantage of any extensions provided by the provincial revenue authority. Timely payment and filing contribute to the effective functioning of the tax system and support the government’s revenue collection efforts.
As the deadline extension provides relief for taxpayers in Sindh, it underscores the importance of adaptability in tax administration to address unique situations, such as religious holidays, that may impact the normal course of business activities. The SRB’s commitment to transparency and responsiveness is evident in its efforts to provide timely information and accommodations for taxpayers.
