Islamabad, February 25, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast indicating the likelihood of thundershowers in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) on Monday, February 26, 2024.

As a westerly wave affects Balochistan, the weather system is expected to persist for the next few days, bringing precipitation and potential snowfall over hills in various regions.

According to the PMD’s weather report, the upcoming Monday is anticipated to see mainly cold and partly cloudy conditions in most parts of the country. However, Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Gilgit-Baltistan, South Punjab, the Pothohar region, Kashmir, and adjoining hilly areas are expected to experience rain, wind, and thundershowers. Additionally, isolated heavy falls are forecasted in the northern and southwestern parts of Balochistan during the specified period.

The synoptic situation, as described by the PMD, points to the influence of a westerly wave that is currently affecting Balochistan and is expected to persist over the next few days.

For Sunday, February 25, 2024, the PMD’s weather forecast indicates mainly cold and partly cloudy weather across most regions of the country. However, Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and adjoining hilly areas are expected to witness rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with the possibility of snowfall over hills. Isolated heavy falls are also predicted in the northern and southwestern parts of Balochistan during this period.

Reflecting on the weather conditions during the past 24 hours, the report notes that cold and dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country, while northern regions experienced very cold and partly cloudy conditions. Notable precipitation occurred in Malam Jabba, with 8 mm, and Murree, with 1 mm. Snowfall measurements for this period include 2 inches in Malam Jabba and 1 inch in Murree.

The recorded lowest minimum temperatures during this timeframe were as follows: Leh at -14°C, Kalam at -12°C, Astore at -09°C, Malam Jabba at -06°C, Skardu, Gupis, and Hunza at -05°C, Bagrote at -04°C, and Rawalakot, Gilgit, and Dir at -03°C.
