Islamabad, December 10, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released its weather forecast for Monday, December 11, 2023, painting a picture of mainly cold and dry conditions across most plain areas of the country.

Additionally, partly cloudy skies are anticipated in the Pothohar region, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir.

Fog and smog are expected to linger in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh during both morning and night hours, affecting visibility and travel conditions for residents and commuters. The PMD emphasized that caution should be exercised during these periods to ensure safety on the roads.

The synoptic situation, as reported by the PMD, indicates that continental air is prevailing over the majority of the country, contributing to the cold and dry weather anticipated in most areas.

Reflecting on the weather conditions experienced on Sunday, December 10, 2023, the PMD reiterated expectations of mainly cold and dry weather in plain areas, accompanied by partly cloudy conditions in the Pothohar region and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The persistence of fog and smog in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh during the morning and night hours was also highlighted.

In the past 24 hours, the PMD reported that cold and dry weather had dominated most parts of the country, with particularly frigid conditions in the northern areas. The recorded lowest minimum temperatures provide a glimpse into the severity of the cold spell, with Leh experiencing -11°C, Skardu at -08°C, Srinagar and Kalam at -05°C, and Gilgit at -04°C. Other regions such as Pulwama, Anantnag, Baramulla, and Gupis recorded temperatures as low as -03°C.

These chilly temperatures signal the onset of winter across Pakistan, urging residents to take necessary precautions to stay warm and protect themselves from the harsh weather conditions. The PMD advises people to stay informed about the latest weather updates and follow safety guidelines, especially during periods of fog and smog.

As Pakistan braces for a cold Monday, citizens are encouraged to plan their activities accordingly, considering the forecasted weather conditions. Whether commuting to work or enjoying outdoor activities, staying prepared and informed will be crucial to navigating the wintry weather ahead.
