BMG Chairman Pledges Advocacy for Karachi Small Traders

Karachi, February 7, 2024 – Zubair Motiwala, Chairman of Business Group (BMG), has affirmed his commitment to champion the rights of small traders in Karachi across all platforms.

As a former president of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Motiwala expressed his dedication to addressing the myriad issues faced by the business community, especially small traders, including challenges related to law and order, electricity, and civic matters.

In a meeting of the Special Committee for Small Traders at KCCI, Motiwala highlighted the ongoing efforts to secure space for displaced shopkeepers affected by anti-encroachment drives in areas like Empress Market, Jubilee Market, Mairaj Market, and Aladdin Park. He noted discussions with Mayor Karachi, expressing optimism that affected traders would receive allotment letters post the upcoming general elections.

The meeting, attended by key figures including Vice Chairman BMG Jawed Bilwani, President KCCI Iftikhar Ahmed Sheikh, and others, emphasized the Karachi Chamber’s dedication to addressing the concerns of small traders without discrimination.

Motiwala acknowledged the deteriorating law and order situation in recent months and shared that the KCCI is actively engaging with law enforcement agencies to seek assistance and monitor progress on monthly law and order-related complaints.

Addressing concerns about customs raids causing losses to traders, Motiwala reported efforts by the KCCI to mitigate such incidents. He urged traders to promptly report raids to facilitate swift action.

Responding to electricity issues, Motiwala assured that the KCCI regularly raises such concerns with relevant officials at KE, emphasizing the importance of immediate reporting to the Public Sector Utilities Subcommittee for prompt resolution.

Motiwala expressed gratitude for the consistent support of the business community, highlighting BMG’s 25-year winning streak in KCCI elections as a testament to its dedication and honesty in serving the diverse needs of the business community.

Meeting participants, representing various commercial markets in the city, voiced their confidence in BMG’s policies and KCCI’s services, pledging unity under the chamber’s umbrella to collectively address challenges faced by small traders and industrialists alike.
