Caretaker Prime Minister Emphasizes Better Coordination for Tax Documentation

Islamabad, September 7, 2023 – Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar emphasized the need for enhanced coordination between the federal and provincial authorities in the realm of tax documentation.

This call came during a high-level meeting focused on the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Privatization Division, convened in Islamabad on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Kakar reiterated that expanding the tax base remained a top priority for the government. He urged all relevant institutions to collaborate effectively to drive significant reforms in the taxation system.

Addressing the participants, Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar stated, “It is imperative that we work together cohesively to ensure comprehensive tax documentation. This not only strengthens our fiscal framework but also supports our economic growth and development aspirations.”

Furthermore, he stressed the importance of expediting the privatization process of loss-making state-owned enterprises, underlining the necessity of adhering to all legal requirements in this regard.

The meeting provided an update on the FBR’s ambitious goal of achieving a tax collection target of 9415 billion rupees. It was revealed that the FBR is actively working on linking its extensive database with other governmental departments, a move aimed at broadening the tax base and improving tax compliance.

Additionally, the Privatization Division presented its progress report, highlighting its efforts to enhance the efficiency and service delivery of state-owned corporations by actively involving the private sector. The division aims to harness the potential of the private sector to streamline operations and optimize services.

Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar’s call for improved coordination in tax documentation and the government’s commitment to meeting its tax collection target underscore the administration’s determination to strengthen the country’s fiscal foundations and enhance economic growth.
