Karachi, March 29, 2024 – Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb undertook a visit to the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) on Friday to oversee the implementation of the Ramadan Relief Package.
The visit, aimed at ensuring the effective execution of the relief measures, comes as the government ramps up efforts to alleviate the financial burden on citizens during the holy month of Ramadan.
One of the key highlights of the visit was the announcement of an increase in the allocated budget for the Ramadan Relief Package from Rs. 7.5 billion to Rs. 12 billion. This substantial augmentation reflects the government’s commitment to providing essential relief to the masses during Ramadan, a period marked by increased expenses for households.
During his visit, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb engaged in discussions with USC officials to assess the challenges encountered in the implementation of the relief package. As part of his review, Minister Aurangzeb evaluated the availability of essential commodities at utility stores in Karachi. Additionally, he examined the functionality of a newly launched mobile application designed to provide information on mobile utility stores and sales points. The minister verified the operating hours of these mobile units to facilitate public access through the user-friendly application, ensuring greater convenience for consumers.
Furthermore, Aurangzeb scrutinized the distribution and sales statistics of items under the Ramadan Relief Package. He also supervised the setup and operations of designated mobile units tasked with distributing subsidized food items among deserving individuals. Emphasizing the importance of fair distribution, the Finance Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining the quality of goods provided to citizens.
