State Bank of Pakistan Notifies Bank Timings for Ramadan 2024

Karachi, March 11, 2024 – As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has officially released the schedule for bank timings during this sacred period.

The SBP’s notification, applicable to all banks, Development Financial Institutions (DFIs), and Microfinance Banks (MFBs), outlines the adjusted office hours to accommodate the religious observances of Ramadan-ul-Mubarak 1445 A.H.

Starting from the beginning of Ramadan-ul-Mubarak, the following office hours will be observed at the State Bank of Pakistan, as well as across all banks, DFIs, and MFBs:

Monday to Thursday:

• Office Hours: 09:00 a.m. to 03:30 p.m.

• Prayer Break: 02:00 p.m. to 02:30 p.m.

Friday:

• Office Hours: 08:30 a.m. to 01:00 p.m. (without break)

The SBP has also instructed banks and MFBs to adhere to the specified business (banking) hours for public dealing during Ramadan:

Monday to Thursday:

• Business (Banking) Hours for Public Dealing: 09:00 a.m. to 02:00 p.m. (without break)

Friday:

• Business (Banking) Hours for Public Dealing: 08:30 a.m. to 01:00 p.m. (without break)

It is important to note that these adjusted timings will be in effect only for the duration of Ramadan-ul-Mubarak. Following the conclusion of the holy month, the specified hours will automatically revert to the pre-Ramadan schedule.

This announcement by the SBP is in line with the annual practice of adapting bank timings to accommodate the religious and cultural practices observed during Ramadan. The adjusted schedule ensures that customers and employees have ample time for religious obligations, including the midday prayer break.

The decision is expected to have a significant impact on daily banking operations and customer interactions during this holy month. It reflects the commitment of financial institutions to support and respect the religious practices of the community.

The SBP’s proactive approach in providing timely information about Ramadan-specific timings aims to facilitate a smooth transition for both financial institutions and the public. The banking community is encouraged to disseminate this information widely to ensure that customers are aware of the adjusted hours and plan their visits accordingly.

As the holy month approaches, the SBP’s announcement serves as a reminder for individuals and businesses to plan their financial activities with consideration for the adjusted bank timings. The temporary changes are a testament to the cultural sensitivity and inclusivity that financial institutions aim to embody during religious observances like Ramadan.
