Suzuki, Daihatsu, and Toyota set to reveal Electric Mini-Commercial Vans

Suzuki Motor Corporation (Suzuki), Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. (Daihatsu), and Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) have joined forces to develop and unveil prototype mini-commercial electric vehicles (BEVs).

This exciting unveiling will take place at an exhibition event showcasing the automobile industry’s commitment to carbon neutrality (CN) from Thursday, May 18, to Sunday, May 21.

The event, organized by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) in collaboration with the G7 Hiroshima Summit, aims to highlight the industry’s dedication to sustainable practices.

Combining their expertise, Suzuki, Daihatsu, and Toyota have successfully developed a BEV system specifically tailored for mini-commercial vehicles. By leveraging Suzuki and Daihatsu’s proficiency in designing small-size cars and Toyota’s electrification technology, these companies are introducing an innovative mini-commercial van BEV.

Daihatsu will be responsible for manufacturing the vehicles, and each company—Suzuki, Daihatsu, and Toyota—plans to release its own version of the vehicle within the fiscal year 2023. To ensure efficient last-mile logistics, Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Corporation (CJPT) also contributed to the project, collaborating on the optimal specifications.

The anticipated cruising range per charge is approximately 200km, and the development process is currently underway with a strong focus on meeting the specific requirements of customers in the delivery industry.

As part of their commitment to carbon neutrality, Suzuki, Daihatsu, and Toyota will continue to promote sustainable transportation solutions, driving the industry towards a greener and more environmentally friendly future.
