FBR further extends sales tax payment date up to April 12

Islamabad, Pakistan – In a bid to provide relief to businesses during these challenging times, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) announced on Tuesday the extension of the last date for the payment of sales tax and federal excise duty (FED) for the month of February 2020.

The new deadline has been set for April 12, 2020.

Initially due on March 15, 2020, the FBR had previously extended the payment deadline to March 31, 2020. However, considering the economic difficulties faced by businesses, the board decided to grant an additional extension until April 12, 2020.

Moreover, the FBR also extended the date for the submission of sales tax and federal excise return for the same tax period, allowing businesses more time to fulfill their financial obligations. The original deadline for filing was March 18, 2020, which was already extended to April 15, 2020.

This latest extension comes on the heels of a previous notification issued on March 24, 2020, wherein the FBR had already provided relief to taxpayers by extending the deadlines for the tax period of January 2020 and Federal 2020.

As per the earlier notification, the FBR permitted taxpayers to submit their sales tax and federal excise return for the month of January 2020 until April 15, 2020. This deadline was originally set for February 18, 2020, but had been extended to February 28, 2020.

The FBR’s proactive measures are aimed at lessening the financial burden on businesses in the wake of the economic challenges posed by the global pandemic. By extending these crucial deadlines, the board seeks to support businesses in meeting their tax obligations without undue strain.

The extension of the deadline for filing sales tax and federal excise return for February 2020, along with the payment deadline, provides businesses with the necessary breathing space to manage their financial affairs in these unprecedented times.

It’s noteworthy that the extension of these dates aligns with the FBR’s commitment to facilitating businesses and taxpayers, recognizing the difficulties they face amid the ongoing economic uncertainties. This move is expected to bring some relief to the business community and help stabilize the economic landscape during these challenging times. The FBR remains vigilant in monitoring the situation and taking necessary actions to support businesses as the situation evolves.
