Thunderstorm Predicted for Central Punjab on October 22

Thunderstorm has been predicted for central Punjab on October 22, 2023 by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) – the national Met Office of the country.

According to the PMD’s daily report, partly cloudy weather is expected in most parts of Pakistan, but central Punjab is likely to experience a thunderstorm.

The PMD report also highlights the possibility of rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with snowfall in higher mountainous regions, at isolated places in several areas. These areas include Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad, upper and central Punjab, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

This weather phenomenon can have significant implications for the regions affected. Thunderstorms may bring heavy rainfall, lightning, strong winds, and in some cases, hail. It’s crucial for residents and authorities in these areas to remain vigilant and prepared for any adverse weather conditions.

The PMD attributes this weather pattern to a westerly wave that is currently impacting various parts of Pakistan. Westerly waves are weather disturbances characterized by the movement of moist air from the Mediterranean region towards the eastern parts of the country. They often bring precipitation, including rain and snow, and can influence weather patterns for several days.

The PMD’s report also provides information on the weather conditions over the past 24 hours. During this period, most parts of the country experienced dry weather, with cold temperatures prevailing in higher-altitude areas. However, isolated rain was recorded in Balochistan.

The recorded rainfall amounts in the past 24 hours are as follows:

• Barkhan: 16 mm

• Dalbandin: 3 mm

• Khuzdar: 1 mm

Additionally, the report highlights the lowest minimum temperatures recorded during this period:

• Leh: -3°C

• Kalam: 0°C

As thunderstorms and heavy rainfall can potentially lead to flooding, landslides, and other weather-related hazards, it’s essential for residents, especially in the mentioned regions, to stay updated with official weather alerts and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. Authorities and disaster management agencies should also be prepared to respond to any weather-related emergencies that may arise on October 22.
