Cold and Dry Weather Forecasted Across Pakistan for March 5

Islamabad, March 4, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting cold and dry conditions in most parts of the country on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.

According to the PMD’s daily weather update, very cold weather is anticipated in the upper regions, while northwest and south Balochistan are expected to experience rain, accompanied by wind and thunderstorms, with snowfall predicted in hilly areas.

On Monday, March 4, 2024, most parts of the country experienced cold and dry weather, with particularly chilly conditions in the upper regions. Light rain, wind, and thunderstorms, along with light snowfall, were reported in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan.

Explaining the synoptic situation, the PMD reported that a continental air mass is prevailing over most areas of the country. Additionally, a westerly wave is anticipated to enter Balochistan on the following evening or night, potentially influencing the weather conditions.

Over the past 24 hours, the weather was characterized by partly cloudy and dry conditions in most parts of the country. However, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the Pothohar region experienced rain and thunderstorms, with snowfall occurring in mountainous areas.

Rainfall was recorded in various locations, including Dir (upper and lower 12 mm), Drosh (11 mm), Kalam (08 mm), Saidu Sharif (07 mm), Mirkhani, and Chitral (06 mm). Other areas, such as Mardan (03 mm), Cherat (01 mm), Islamabad (A/P) (03 mm), Attock (02 mm), and Bokra (01 mm), also received precipitation. Snowfall was reported in Drosh (05 inches), Kalam (04 inches), Mirkhani (03 inches), Chitral (2.4 inches), and Dir (02 inches).

The recorded lowest minimum temperatures during the day were as follows: Leh, Kalam (-10°C), Kalat (-06°C), Quetta (Samungli), Malamjabba (-05°C), Astore (-04°C), Skardu, Gupis, and Mir Khani (-03°C).

As Pakistan braces for another day of cold weather, the public is advised to take necessary precautions to stay warm and safe. Residents in the affected regions, especially those in the upper parts, are urged to be prepared for the very cold conditions. The PMD will continue to monitor and update the weather situation, ensuring that accurate information is provided to the public and relevant authorities.
